"I know the plans I have for you..."
(and He wants to talk about them).
Jeremiah 29:11 is one of the most famous verses in all of Holy Scripture.
"For I know the thoughts that I think towards you," says the LORD, "even the thoughts of peace, and not of trouble, to give you a future and a hope." (RGT)
But if I keep going just a little further, I see exactly HOW He wants to show me those thoughts and plans:
"Then you shall cry to Me. And you shall go and pray to Me. And I will hear you.
"And you shall seek Me, and find me, because you shall seek Me with all your heart."
~Jeremiah 29:12-13
It all starts with prayer. And the same is true in the New Testament. When Jesus first commissioned the additional 70 disciples in Luke 10, His first commandment to them wasn't "carry no money in your bag" or "heal the sick" or even "preach the word".
His first commandment was "Pray the Lord of the Harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."
Jesus couldn't speak anything before speaking to His Father first (John 12:49-50). So it makes sense that Scripture teaches us to do the same.
