The “mountaintop” immediately followed by the “valley”. Doesn’t God seem to work that way a lot?
In Mark 6, Jesus performs the only miracle besides the Resurrection to be mentioned in all 4 Gospels, "The Feeding of the 5000". And in 3 of the 4 Gospels, Jesus’ walking on the water in the storm immediately follows it.
And it’s there that, in Matthew 14, Peter’s extraordinary act of faith occurs. He steps out of the boat and walks on the water toward Jesus. His mountaintop experience is over and forgotten. And now, it’s just down to him and Jesus, in the storm. And the result of his faith is nothing short of miraculous, just as it was with all 12 of the disciples only hours earlier in the desert with the 5000.
Maybe you’re wondering what happened to the mountaintop. Maybe you’re feeling like you’ve been holding on to the edge of the boat in the middle of a storm for way too long. And that’s ok. Because if you’re on the edge of the boat, it’s easier to step out of it when Jesus calls.
He sees you in the storm. He loves you. And He will never let you sink. In fact, He’s preparing a permanent place for you back on that mountaintop right now.
