Sometimes people ask, "So, what's the difference between The Revised Geneva Translation and other Bibles?" Good question!
In addition to several completely unique renderings of Scripture like Matthew 6:13a, Luke 2:14, Titus 1:8, 1Timothy 3:2, Romans 12:13, Acts 24:27, John 1:15, Acts 17:22, 1Corinthians 9:5, and Philippians 4:13, the RGT also differs from modern versions of Scripture on several other verses.
One such rendering is of the Hebrew word "tsâphan" as "treasured" rather than "hidden" in Psalm 119:11.
We believe all the occurrences below clearly describe the extra valuing of something rather than the simple concealment of it.
"I have treasured Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You." ~Psalm 119:11
"They have taken crafty counsel against Your people and have consulted against Your treasured ones." ~Psalm 83:3
"Nor have I departed from the Commandment of His lips; and I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my appointed food." ~Job 23:12
"My son, if you will receive my words, and treasure my commandments within you......then you shall understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God." ~Proverbs 2:1-5
As the Introduction to the RGT says,
“Words matter; especially God's words; and especially if you're acting them out (or speaking them) in front of people. You’d better know exactly what you're saying and why.” (parenthesis added)
